To Be Free

A concert that will explore texts centered around the concept of Freedom, something that should never be taken for granted

The centerpiece work on this program will be Caroline Shaw’s To The Hands, a work that takes the texts of Emma Lazarus’ The New Colossus and intermingles it with the chorale Ad Manus from Buxtehude’s Member Jesu Nostri in poignant ways. Other works to include Jake Runestad’s The Peace of Wild Things, David Lang’s If I Am Silent, and Karen Siegel’s To Be Free, an adaptation of the Shaker/Copland tune Gift to be Simple.
