New Amsterdam Singers begins the season with a concert featuring several beloved choral classics, including J.S. Bach’s motet for double chorus Ich lasse dich nicht, Morten Lauridsen’s ethereal O Magnum Mysterium, and Franz Biebl’s soaring Ave Maria for men’s voices. The women will perform Benjamin Britten’s much-loved A Ceremony of Carols, a 12-movement setting of medieval and Renaissance carol texts that offers a wide variety of musical styles and moods. Also on the program: Lauridsen’s Mid-winter Songs, based on poetry by Robert Graves, arrangements of Three Yiddish Songs by Viktor Ullmann, and Rosephanye Powell’s rousing The Word Was God.
