Moon River Quilt

Moonlight shines vertically through dark water in an illusion created through the repeated use of a single block called Northwind.

As part of a song cycle called Quilt Songs, composer Carol Barnett set Hilaire Belloc’s poem “The Night.” Her inspiration: this quilt by Kay McCarthy named Moon River, which features striking contrasts of light and dark. Barnett says, “I hope that the audience will take away from the performance a sense of mystery and delicious repose.”
